Cooperation programme – Burundi

As part of its engagement in Burundi, Switzerland contributes to improving the well-being of the population and strengthening social cohesion. Its efforts, grounded in a people based approach, prioritize support for initiatives in health, nutrition, governance, gender equality, and vocational training. To this end, Switzerland mobilizes its three complementary approaches: development cooperation, humanitarian aid, and peacebuilding.

Burundi, having regained stability over the past decade, is now on a path of reconstruction and resilience. While the regional context and economic challenges call for shared vigilance, they also underscore the importance of catalyzing new growth opportunities for the country.

It is in this spirit of partnership that Switzerland is implementing a cooperation program with Burundi. The interventions under the new cooperation program now focus on two key areas for the future: Health and Active youth, driving force behind Burundi’s sustainable development.
